Newcastle United supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been pretty downbeat in recent times after seeing their team suffer a third Premier League loss of the season at the weekend.
Rafa Benitez’s men went into their clash with champions Manchester City having picked up just one point from their first three matches, drawing at Cardiff City alongside defeats at the hands of Tottenham and Chelsea. And the North East heavyweights were unable to record their first success of the campaign on Saturday as well as goals from Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker either side of a DeAndre Yedlin equaliser secured the three points for Pep Guardiola’s Citizens.
As such, there have been many frustrated Magpies supporters up and down the country in recent times, with captain Jamaal Lascelles one man at the forefront of their irritation given he was at fault for the opener.
And after a relatively modest start to the campaign, alongside interest in his services from the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool during the summer, it appears that the Magpies lynchpin needs to buck up his ideas if he is to earn a big move away.
Ultimately, the 24-year-old was absolutely magnificent for the North East heavyweights in helping them to a tenth place finish in the Premier League last term, with the Englishman turning in several man-of-the-match performances over the course of the campaign.
And those efforts last term appeared to interest several top sides during the summer, yet the defender may need to improve once again if he is to indeed earn a big move away from Tyneside in the not-too-distant future.
The 24-year-old was at fault for City’s opener in their 2-1 win over Benitez’s side on Saturday to add to what has been a pretty underwhelming start to the campaign for the Newcastle captain, who has so far contributed to just one clean sheet from their opening four matches.
And while there is still plenty of time for Lascelles to improve and thus hit the heights of last season this time round, there are sure to be some concerns from potential suitors given his lacklustre start to the campaign, alongside the fact that he has reportedly been involved in a heated argument with Matt Ritchie in recent times.
As such, given his sluggish start to the campaign, it appears that the 24-year-old needs to buck up his ideas if he is to indeed earn a big move away from Newcastle in the near future.
