The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been saying their goodbyes to French left-back Massadio Haidara after the 25-year-old signed for RSC Lens. The club broke the news to the fans on the Newcastle website and the messages of support have been flooding in as the fans believe injury robbed him of a fair chance at the club.

The French left-back ended a five-and-a-half-year spell with the club earlier this summer and he’s now penned a contract with Ligue 2 club, Lens. The Magpies in our bar would like to have seen more from the defender who only managed 54 appearances in his time at the club, with his last outing for the club coming in the club’s final game of last season when they beat Chelsea 3-0 on the final day.
Haidara only managed to make 3 appearances in his final season for the club, with one of those being his three-minute cameo against Chelsea, the player was never really given a chance under Rafa Benitez. However, now the defender has left for his homeland and will be hoping to get his career back on track with his new club, the Magpies will be keeping a close eye on him and hoping he can dig a successful career out with his latest move.
Here’s what our local Geordies make of Haidara’s move:
He never got back to his best after that awful 'tackle' by McManaman. Best wishes though, hope he becomes the player we all wished he could become when he gets more game time pic.twitter.com/BTMxBVxnFp

As you can see, the Newcastle fans in the Tavern are gutted to see Haidara leave, but will be keen for him to get his career back on track.
