‘Worse than Mitro’ – Almost every Newcastle fan would hate to see big striker join the club

The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been groaning this morning as Lee Ryder, The Chronicle’s chief Newcastle United football writer has claimed on Twitter that Salomon Rondon’s agent has been back in touch with the club over a potential transfer.

According to Ryder, Rafa Benitez believes a deal for the big Venezuelan striker is still a viable option, despite the fans all wanting to ditch the links to the West Brom man and go for a better goalscorer. According to The Times, the club have had a £15 million bid for Nice’s Alassane Plea rejected, and the fans would much rather see a striker of Plea’s pedigree at the club as opposed to Rondon, who was relegated with the Baggies last season.

The Geordies need to sign a striker this summer as they prepare to offload a forward of their own in Aleksandar Mitrovic. The Serbian front-man has been on his way out of St James Park for some time now and with the club being linked to multiple strikers it seems obvious that the Mitrovic money will be pumped into funding a suitable replacement for the hotheaded 23-year-old. However, if that striker is Rondon, we’ll have some very frustrated Magpies in our bar.

Whilst Rondon might not be a bad striker, the Geordies are in agreement that he’s not the man for them.
