Newcastle United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are gathered around the jukebox discussing reports that their manager must sell before he can buy.
The Telegraph is reporting that Steve McClaren has been told by the hierarchy at the club that players must leave the club, before new ones can be bought in.
Tensions between the manager and the board are increasing due to the club’s poor start to their Premier League campaign.
Rumours surrounding McClaren’s future gained pace yesterday following his side’s 5-1 weekend defeat at Crystal Palace.
McClaren will know he needs to improve his struggling side in January, and with the board behind him for now, he knows he can’t afford to make any mistakes as to who comes in and who he lets go during the January transfer window.
The Newcastle United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are not at all surprised by the board demanding that players leave the club, and are fearful that no one will want to pay the fees wanted by their club for underperforming players.
Our landlord here in the Tavern feels that Newcastle United are in serious trouble, with him arguing that it is going to take a lot of incoming transfers to help rejuvenate the Tyneside club come the new year!
