The Newcastle United fans are gathered around the jukebox in The Transfer Tavern discussing comments made by one of their January signings.
The Chronicle is reporting that Andros Townsend is talking up the club’s chances of survival and that he thinks the club will survive and that Rafael Benitez will still be in control of first team affairs come next season.
Townsend is confident the club can survive as Benitez has made vast improvements to the club’s tactics and training schedule and that the club must continue to build on the comeback in the North East derby. Speaking about the manager and the run-in, Townsend said:
“Getting Rafa Benitez to come to Newcastle just shows how big the club is. He’s won everything around the world and managed the best players, so it can only be a positive for us. We can stay up this season and we can keep one of the best managers at Newcastle.”
“It’s been fantastic with Rafa coming in, but it’s no secret I was disappointed when McClaren left. They paid a lot of money to get me here and it was Steve who put his faith in me to get me here. This is football, and you need to move on.”
The Newcastle fans in The Tavern are hopeful that the comments made by Townsend are the same thoughts of the rest of the players in the squad and it they are they are hopeful of survival come the end of the season.
