Newcastle United need to improve on the pitch if they are to retain their Premier League status, and in order to do that, they will need to keep hold of their best players.
Rafa Benitez’s side are yet to taste victory this season and currently sit alongside Huddersfield Town at the bottom of the division.
The Spaniard will want to use the January transfer market to bring in a number of players to help improve his squad, however, he could be in a battle to keep one of his stars at the club.
It is understood that both London sides have sent scouts recently to watch the Magpies in action, with the defender at the forefront of their minds.
The Magpies are determined to keep hold of the £13.5million-rated enforcer, as per Transfermarkt, and will be pleased to have tied him down to a long-term contract last summer.
Transfer links around Lascelles have gone on for a while, however, the longer Newcastle’s problems go on for, the more likely a move could happen.
There is no doubt that the defender is key to Benitez and the St. James’ Park outfit, and although they may be able to keep him beyond the winter window, should results not improve they will face a battle in keeping him in the summer.
It remains to be seen on what happens in January as if Mike Ashley does not give the manager the funds to make the required additions, then the Spaniard may be forced into having to offload Lascelles.
