Arsenal spent well over the summer as the Gunners looked to strengthen their midfield and defence but didn’t bring in a dynamic winger to bolster Emery’s attack.
In goal, Bernd Leno has begun to show signs of a goalkeeper that could be the club’s number one for Emery. In defence, Sokratis has been a welcome addition, while in midfield, new boys Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi have been surprisingly good.
Up front, however, Emery has chosen to play Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette with the Gabon international playing on the wing. Although Alex Iwobi has emerged as a potential long-term starter for Emery but Arsenal could still do with some added depth on the wings and in Ligue 1 sensation Nicolas Pepe, they may just have found one according to Telefoot.
According to the report, Arsenal would be willing to spend £44 million to sign the 23-year-old who has also attracted attention from Borussia Dortmund.
The Ivory Coast international has been a star for Lille in Ligue 1 and has so far scored eight goals in 12 games while also creating a further seven. Last season, he scored 13 in 36 for the French side and at 23, he’s quickly become one of the best young prospects in the league.
Tall and powerful, Pepe is an incredibly dynamic forward and once he gets pace to drive forward it’s incredibly hard to stop him. Moreover, as seen by his goalscoring record of late, the winger isn’t just about pace as he can finish and create goals too. The fee might be slightly inflated but he could be a star for Arsenal.
