Chelsea have a lot of problems on their plate. From concern about their form on the field to issues related to their ability to make transfers over the coming year, it’s not a very easy time to be a Blue.
However, the problems on their plate are only growing at present, as highlighted by a recent article from SPORT Bild. Indeed, as per Sport Bild, Callum Hudson-Odoi’s future is still a hot topic it seems, with Bayern Munich still interested. On top of that, however, it’s also said that both Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool have an interest in the Englishman.
Of course, this is a huge issue for Chelsea. Not only are they now contending with Bayern Munich’s interest, but they’re also facing problems elsewhere, and that’s only going to make their job of keeping Hudson-Odoi more difficult. Interestingly, each club offers a different option for the player, and that’s also worrying. He can opt for one of Europe’s biggest and best clubs in the form of Bayern Munich, a team known for developing youth in Borussia Dortmund, or a mix of the two in the Premier League with Liverpool.
This is the last thing that Chelsea needed, but really, there’s only one person the club and the fans can blame – and that’s Maurizio Sarri. He’s continually refused to give Hudson-Odoi what he wants, in the form of extra game time, and clearly, clubs have taken notice.
Simply put, all the player wants is minutes on the field. He’s grown up at Chelsea, and he evidently doesn’t want to depart. However, he recognises that he won’t reach his potential if he isn’t given minutes, and under Sarri, he hasn’t had enough. Significantly, he’s yet to make a single start in the Premier League, and that’s simply baffling.
Borussia Dortmund’s interest is particularly interesting, given that they’ve got Jadon Sancho. Sancho, who has grown up in the same developmental system as Hudson-Odoi with England, is playing practically every week over in Germany with Dortmund; and that just shows what Hudson-Odoi could be getting if he wasn’t at Chelsea.
Now, of course, a teenager is never going to play every week. That much is obvious. However, he should at least expect to get a fair chance. Whenever he has played this season, the youngster has looked good, and he’s arguably been one of if not the single best player in the Europa League this term. However, he’ll often go from having a starring role on a Thursday to sitting on the bench on the Sunday; and it doesn’t make sense.
The reality for Chelsea is that this interest isn’t going to go away if nothing changes. It’s only going to intensify, and Maurizio Sarri is the man at fault. It doesn’t take a genius to work out that the Blues would be better off, both in the short-term and long-term, with Hudson-Odoi in the team.
Yet, the manager doesn’t understand that. And the Blues will lose out as a result if they aren’t careful.
