Everton fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking up with glee as the Metro claim that the club have not had any new bids for their star duo Leighton Baines or Marouane Fellani.
All summer long, Everton fans have had to watch their former long serving manager David Moyes take up the reigns at Old Trafford and have become increasingly worried over the future of their star players. Even before Moyes took over at Old Trafford, the club held a long-term interest in Baines and are fully aware that Patrice Evra is getting to the twilight stages of his career and a replacement needs to be found. After making an initial bid that was rejected, United decided not to go back and offer more due to Baines’ age and moved on to other targets.
Now it seems that despite a host of links away from the club, no one has attempted to prise the Belgium International away either
‘No, there have been no recent bids,’ he said.
‘I know that is not what you might want to hear, but everyone here is focused on fighting for spots in the starting lineup and the competitive level in the group is massive.
‘I don’t think speculation is healthy, we are just trying to become as good as we can before the transfer window closes.
‘If we get clubs talking about our players, we take it as a compliment, because the players have been impressing and doing really well.
‘We are in a great position financially, and will start the season with the best squad we can.’
