There is drama here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by Metro that one of Chelsea’s forwards will be staying at the club this summer.
Given that Jose Mourinho is fighting to take Didier Drogba back to his former club and is set on getting rid of Demba Ba, it now seems that young Lukaku will be getting his chance.
There are no shortage of teams waiting to take the powerful forward on loan yet it now seems that Lukaku will be staying at the Stamford Bridge, becoming one of Mourinho’s key men as the season approaches.
Given that Chelsea have not yet signed a forward, the Belgian may well become even more key for the Blues and talking about Mourinho claimed: “We spoke and I want to keep it private because when you have confidential talks with the manager, it has to stay between you and him,’ Lukaku said. ‘We had a good talk and now it’s up to me.
“You never know in football but my mind is in Chelsea now and I have come back to do well in pre-season and if I do a good pre-season, I think I will have a place in the squad and hopefully in the starting 11.
“Last year I had a great season at West Brom and I think have the qualities to do it here, but it is up to me.”
Will Romelu Lukaku forge a great part of Mourinho’s first team plans this season? Let us know your thoughts below.
