‘No muscle, control or organisation’ – Liverpool fans slate midfield players despite victory

The Liverpool supporters were delighted in the Transfer Tavern yesterday evening after watching their side record a 2-0 victory against Southampton at Saint Mary’s Stadium.

Jurgen Klopp’s side claimed another huge victory in the race for the top-four on Sunday as they comfortably saw off the challenge of a toothless Saints side on the south-coast. Roberto Firmino opened the scoring for The Reds after just 6 minutes, as Mo Salah capitalised on a defensive mistake from Wesley Hoedt and squared the ball to the Brazilian who made no mistake in finding the bottom from 16 yards out.

The aforementioned pair combined once again to double Liverpool’s advantage shortly before half-time, as Firmino played a glorious backheel into the path of Salah who was never going to miss from 12 yards out to score his 22nd Premier League goal of the season.

Liverpool pushed to increase their advantage in the second-half, but they lacked a clinical edge and missed a handful of decent chances to put the game beyond the relegation-threatened Saints. Their lack of potency mattered not in the end as Southampton struggled to muster up any genuine goal-scoring opportunities themselves at the other end of the field.

In the aftermath of proceedings the likes of Salah, Firmino and Van Dijk were singled out for individual praise on Twitter, but the supporters had plenty of stern words to say towards their midfield trio of Emre Can, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Georginio Wijnaldum.

The supporters were disappointed by various aspects of their performances, and they pointed towards the absence of Jordan Henderson as a key reason for their side’s struggle in central midfield yesterday afternoon.

Here’s what the supporters on Twitter had to say about the absence of Henderson and the performance of Liverpool’s midfielders yesterday afternoon…
