Crystal Palace fans have been pretty quiet in the Transfer Tavern during the international break such has been their side’s horrendous start to the season.
Roy Hodgson’s men remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League having lost each of their opening seven league games, the latest a 4-0 defeat to Manchester United, and in that time have failed to score a goal as well.
The Eagles will hope to secure that elusive victory when the league resumes this weekend, but before then there may be some more bad news for our resident Palace supporters if a recent report from The Daily Mirror is anything to go by.
And that’s because they report that Leicester City are seeking to make a move for Palace winger Andros Townsend in January, having reportedly tried to lure him to the King Power Stadium during the summer.
The 26-year-old moved to Selhurst Park back in 2016 after a short stint at Newcastle United, and has since gone on to play 49 games for the Eagles, in which time he has scored three goals and laid on eight assists.
However, like many a Palace player so far this term, Townsend has failed to ignite in seven Premier League appearances for Hodgson’s side, despite bagging three goals and laying on six assists in 36 league matches last season to help Sam Allardyce’s side beat the drop.
Yet Palace’s striking woes could force the Eagles to cash in on the England international in January, and it seems that Leicester are again looking to land him in a bid to bolster their own attacking options, having managed to win just once so far this season.
But whether a deal can be struck between the two sides in the New Year very much remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Andros Townsend made the move to Crystal Palace back in 2016 following Newcastle United’s relegation, and certainly did his bit in helping the Eagles avoid the drop themselves last season.
On his day, the 26-year-old can be unplayable but those days are few and far between, hence the most recent of his 13 England caps came all the way back in November of last year.
Nonetheless, the quality is there and he’s clearly someone Leicester City think very highly of, having reportedly tried to sign him in the summer, and are now reportedly looking to do so again in January.
Palace’s predicament at the foot of the Premier League means they are unlikely to want to part with one of their prized assets, but the man himself may want a move away in January, especially if they continue to struggle.
