The transfer market may be closed, but that will not stop managers from assessing where their team can still improve, even if the January window is months away.
And one man who may be looking to dip into the winter transfer window once it opens is Roy Hodgson.
On paper, Crystal Palace probably have good enough individuals in their squad to finish the season in the top half of the Premier League table.
However, three successive defeats to Liverpool, Watford and Southampton will be a cause for concern for Hodgson.
The 2-0 defeat at home against Southampton, in particular, was worrying with it being another game that showed Crystal Palace could not cope without their talisman Wilfried Zaha, who missed out due to injury.
With that in mind, Hodgson may attempt to bolster his attacking options in January. Crystal Palace at the back, on the other hand, look much more reliable in matches with Mamadou Sakho and James Tomkins often putting in solid displays.
Should Hodgson decide he also wants to reinforce his defence, though, then free agent John Terry could be a very good low-budget option if he is still available in January.
With Terry currently without a club, Transfer Tavern wanted to see if Crystal Palace supporters would be open to the former Chelsea and England captain arriving at Selhurst Park.
But, with 57% having voted no, it appears the addition of £900k-rated (via Transfermarkt) Terry would not be a welcome one.
Ultimately, there are more urgent areas of Crystal Palace’s squad that need addressing. That being said, bringing in someone like Terry could be the difference between a mid-table finish and a relegation scrap — something the 43% of voters who liked the idea of Terry coming in are likely to agree with.
