Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has predicted that the Yorkshire club will make further signings in the January transfer window.
Marcelo Bielsa spent just under the £100m mark over the summer, with the likes of Rodrigo Moreno and Diego Llorente arriving from Valencia and Real Sociedad respectively.
With the European transfer window ending two weeks ago, Leeds missed out on the signing of Michael Cuisance from Bayern Munich, who eventually joined Ligue 1 side Marseille.
Interest in Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell soon followed, with Italian journalist Nicolo Schira claiming that personal terms had been agreed between the player and Leeds, but a move never happened. That was followed by a transfer link to Derby County’s Louie Sibley but the Whites did not do any business before the closure of the domestic transfer window on Friday.
What has Whelan said about potential January transfer business?
Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said: “I think they’ll assess the situation, I think right now everyone’s happy with the signings and the players they’ve brought into the football club.
“I think there’s enough there to cover towards January, I think they’ll assess the situation as to how we’re getting through the season, up until December where it gets a little bit more manic.
“See where we are, see where we need to strengthen, see what players we may have lost to injury or form and then that will be something they’ll be thinking about November, December time – where they need to strengthen.
“I’ve got absolutely no doubt that there will be more signings come January.”
Have Leeds done enough business this summer?
Despite missing out on the likes of Cuisance, Cantwell and Sibley, it certainly looks like Leeds have done enough transfer business, especially judging by their impressive start to the season.
The Yorkshire side have acquitted themselves well back in the Premier League and the mood music around Elland Road would be even sweeter if they pull off some astute deals in January – maybe for the likes of Cantwell or Sibley.
