Norwich City have enquired about a move for Sevilla defender Joris Gnagnon, according to Spanish newspaper Estadio Deportivo.
According to the publication, Norwich City are looking at the defender. However, Premier League rivals Burnley are also said to be interested.
The Norfolk club have already signed Ibrahim Amadou, who was a teammate of Gnagnon at the Spanish club last season.
The deal for Amadou is said to be a loan move with the option of signing the defensive midfielder for €10.5m (roughly £9.7m).
Links with Gnagnon come following a less than stable pre-season at the centre of defence for Norwich. Christoph Zimmermann has an injury and will miss the start of the Premier League campaign. Fellow defensive teammates Grant Hanley, Timm Klose and Ben Godfrey have also missed various fixtures during the summer.
A move for Gnagnon would suit the Frenchman after a torrid time at Sevilla last season. The 22-year-old made just 16 appearances in all competitions, with just seven of those appearances coming in La Liga.
Gnagnon’s defensive statistics from last season show he has the talent to succeed at Carrow Road. The 22-year-old made 1.6 tackles per game in the Spanish top flight, which was more than all four of Norwich’s centre-halves. Gnagnon also made 1.4 interceptions per game in La Liga, which was also more than any of Norwich’s centre-halves (via WhoScored).
In his short time with Sevilla, Gnagnon has shown he can be a great centre-half. With the injuries surrounding the Norwich defenders, it would be smart from manager Daniel Farke to sign another option who will increase both the depth and add quality to the side. Also, Gnagnon is only 22-years-old and has time to develop into a much better player.
