Daniel Farke revealed the news at a press conference and revealed there was 'a little blood' in the calf of the Norwegian winger.

He said: "Alex had a little setback in the past week. A small calf injury. We had just planned he would be out for seven to 10 days but there is still some blood in the calf."

"We have to get that out and we either use some traditional methods or maybe a small surgery. That is a decision to make in the next day or two. It is very rare with this injury you have to do that. It is a shame for Alex. He was looking sharp and unbelievably fit at this level. Let's see how it develops." (Source: Eastern Daily Press)

Tettey played a huge part for the Norfolk club last season, featuring 30 times as the club won promotion back to the Premier League. His injury leaves Norwich City with just two out-and-out defensive midfielders in the squad, which could prove problematic especially with a hard start to the season for the club.

The Norwegian was with the Canaries when they were last in the Premier League and has made 71 appearances in English football's top flight.

An injury setback is devastating for manager Farke, especially after he revealed that the club wasn't looking to add to their squad ahead of the transfer window closing next Thursday. Depending on the severity of the setback, Norwich may have to dip back into the market to sign another midfielder.

As mentioned above, Tettey has Premier League experience, making the second-most appearances of any player at Norwich City having made 71 appearances, behind goalkeeper Tim Krul (157).

With Norwich expecting to battle relegation next season the experience will be key. To potentially lose Tettey for the beginning of the season is a hammer blow for the club, especially with such a difficult start to the season.
