Daniel Farke praised the ability of attacker Patrick Roberts ahead of his side’s trip to Crawley Town in the Carabao Cup second round.
Farke said the 22-year-old will prove his pedigree this season and looks set for his audition to feature regularly for Norwich in tonight’s clash against the League Two side (via Pink Un).
The Manchester City loanee was said to have talked to Canaries fan and former Citizens team-mate Angus Gunn before making the switch to Norfolk.
Farke commented on Gunn and said the ‘keeper could be the perfect role model for Roberts moving forward (via Pink Un)‘.
Roberts has endured an injury-plagued last few seasons, which has seen his short career stall. The Englishman has been on loan at both Celtic and Girona in the last two campaigns, however, has made a combined 39 appearances in all competitions (via Transfermarkt).
His spell in Glasgow during the 2017/2018 season was ravaged by a knock and a thigh injury as he missed 23 games in all competitions.
While at Girona, Roberts not only endured injury problems which saw him miss 13 games, the youngster also had the misfortune of suffering relegation from the Spanish top-flight (via Transfermarkt).
However, it’s not just the loanee’s injury problems which should see him play second fiddle to Todd Cantwell this season. A mixture of both of the player’s statistics in the previous season shows the varying level of ability.
Cantwell averaged over one in every attacking statistics on WhoScored.com, bar offsides per games, showing his impressive first season with the Norwich first team in the Championship last season. Meanwhile, Roberts struggled massively with Girona, averaging over one in just dribbles per game as he endured the heartbreak of relegation (via WhoScored.com).
To add to Cantwell’s impressive season in the second tier of English football, the 21-year-old has also contributed towards three goals in the first three games of the Premier League season this campaign.
The difference in confidence and ability of the two players is stark. Cantwell must retain his starting place to ensure the Canaries keep progressing this season.
