Moritz Leitner has laid praise on Norwich City team-mate Teemu Pukki, however, also emphasised the team’s performances as a whole.
The Canaries beat Newcastle United 3-1 in their opening home game of the Premier League season, with Pukki scoring a hat-trick.
Leitner praised the Finn, however, said he is just one part of a whole team:
“Well done, Teemu, of course, he is fantastic, he scored three times. I think it is not only him, the whole team and how we worked.
“And even Teemu, it was not only his goals, it was how he worked and how he worked back – he is our first defender.” (Source: Pink Un)
Pukki’s impact in the Norfolk side’s Premier League campaign so far has been quite telling. The 29-year-old has scored all four of his side’s goals so far, including a trio of strikes against Steve Bruce’s side.
However, it is more than just his goals which makes Pukki the star of Daniel Farke’s side. The Finland international leads the charts in a key attacking statistic which show his ability. Pukki has averaged the most shots per game in the whole Norwich City squad (5), more than double the amount of the nearest teammate (2.5).
In terms of the league, the Finn’s 10 shots so far in the top-flight is the joint-highest alongside Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling.
Huddersfield Town showed how badly you need a good finisher in the English top-flight when they were relegated after just two seasons in the top flight, scoring a meagre 50 across both campaigns.
Pukki has shown his quality thus far, and it’s hard to imagine just what the Norfolk side would do without their star striker. While football is a team sport, it’s hard to see Norwich City progress this season if the 29-year-old was to suffer a long-term injury, such is his importance to the side.
