Teemu Pukki has claimed he is excited at starting the new Premier League season away to Liverpool this coming Friday.
Norwich City start life back in the top tier of English football at Anfield, and Pukki claims that it is a perfect start for the Norfolk club.
He said: “It’s the best game to start with, and the one I was looking out for. A lot of my family follow Liverpool, including my dad Tero and my uncle.
“In Finland, I would say Liverpool is the biggest team, it started in the 1980s with the games on the television. And then obviously they have had two Finland legends in Jari Litmanen and Sami Hyypia.”
“I want to test myself against the best and this will be the ideal way to see what this season is going to be about.” (Source: The Telegraph)
Norwich City have suffered a very poor record away at Anfield in recent years, and against Liverpool generally. The side’s last win of any kind against the Merseyside club was way back in the 1993/1994 season, beating Liverpool 1-0 away at Anfield.
Since then Norwich City have conceded 39 goals in just 12 games, and after Liverpool’s goalscoring form in the last campaign, scoring 89 goals in the Premier League, Friday’s encounter could be an unforgiving affair for Daniel Farke’s side.
Christoph Zimmermann may not be available at the start of the season after being ruled out for 4-6 weeks last month, and Ben Godfrey, Grant Hanley and Timm Klose have all missed various games in pre-season, showing a less than stable defence.
This could play into Liverpool’s hand who give the best of teams a hard time, like Manchester City in the Community Shield, never mind an unsettled back four.
