Norwich City: Canaries target Nathaniel Chalobah - Norwich City

Norwich City are targeting a move for Watford midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah ahead of the close of the transfer window on Thursday, according to Football Insider.

However, according to the site, Norwich City aren’t the only club interested in Chalobah, with fellow Premier League new boys Sheffield United also interested.

Norwich City and Sheffield United are said to want to convince Watford to loan out the 24-year-old with the promise of first-team football to regain fitness after his lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Links with Chalobah go against manager Daniel Farke’s word that the club are not looking to add to their squad following their early business.

However, the Norfolk club have a real lack of depth in the defensive midfield position after the injury suffered by veteran midfielder Alex Tettey. Farke was less than optimistic over the setback suffered by the 33-year-old and said the Norwegian could even need surgery.

That leaves just Louis Thompson and Tom Trybull as the club’s defensive midfielders, and with a difficult run of opening games coming up in the Premier League, reinforcements could be needed.

Chalobah could be the man for the job, with the 24-year-old possessing experience across both Serie A and the Premier League. The former England youth international has played for Burnley, Napoli, Chelsea and Watford across the two divisions.

A move for Chalobah, even on loan, would be a brilliant signing for Farke this season. Before his major injury in 2017, Chalobah started five games for Watford and averaged 1.5 tackles per game and 1 interception per game, showing his quality.

With there being a real lack of options at the club, Norwich City could use the services of Chalobah. He would add depth in the squad, and could provide much-needed experience and quality.
