Not another Salah: Chelsea simply must sell £36m-rated midfielder this summer

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are growing increasingly frustrated at the poor form of Tiemoue Bakayoko. The Frenchman has struggled for the Blues this season, prompting many to call for his departure this summer.

However, according to the Telegraph, a departure is unlikely – with Chelsea reportedly ready to give him another year. The Chelsea brass, it is said, are concerned that they’ve let players go too soon in recent years, and as a result, they’re fearing another Mo Salah-like situation, in that Bakayoko could develop quickly into a fantastic talent if he were to depart.

Our landlord, though isn’t so sure. He doesn’t think that Bakayoko, who is rated at £36 million by Transfer Markt, can be compared to Salah – and he thinks that Chelsea need to cash in on the Frenchman.

The main difference between Bakayoko’s tenure and Salah’s tenure is the simple fact that Bakayoko has had more than enough time to make an impact. He’s started in 21 league games for the Blues, and Antonio Conte has been very patient with him. Compare that to Salah, who made just 6 league starts for the Blues, and you begin to get a clearer vision of which player truly deserved more time.

What’s more, it isn’t like Bakayoko has shown that he’s capable at all. Salah had moments of genius, like his strong finish against Arsenal in a 6-0 win over the Gunners, but Bakayoko has done very little for the Blues. It’s tough to pinpoint a single game in which he impressed, and that’s problematic when considering his long-term future.

There are other, more talented players in Europe that could do a job in the Chelsea midfield, and the Blues can’t afford to be patient on the off chance that he finally begins to reach his peak. It’s time to cash in on the disappointing Frenchman.
