‘Not for sale, not at any price’ – Newcastle fans bullish over worrying transfer rumour

The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t happy with the news from The Sun that claims Marco Silva has made Jamaal Lascelles one of his targets for the summer and will be putting in a £30 million bid for the centre-back. This news comes as an insult to injury with Rafa Benitez in a stalemate with Mike Ashley over his future at St James Park.

Newcastle will need to keep their core squad intact and be coy in the transfer market if they are to improve on last season’s fantastic 10th place finish in the Premier League. The Magpies were successful in the January window, despite being strapped for cash, as they brought in Martin Dubravka, Kenedy and Islam Slimani, all on loan, with the latter being the only one who failed to make an impact at the club.

This summer the fans will be hoping that they can get Rafa tied down long-term, keep their best players from last season and start making moves for new players in the market, which is a big ask for Mike Ashley who’s used to pocketing a profit and letting the club rot in mediocrity. The Geordies can look at the summer as a success if Benitez is still in charge at the end of it ultimately, although keeping their captain, Jamaal Lascelles will also be crucial, despite interest from Everton, with Liverpool also tracking his progress.
