Not good news for Man City fans as potentially unwelcome reports emerge

Manchester City supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side maintain their 11-point lead at the top of the Premier League, as well as reach the last four of the Carabao Cup.

Pep Guardiola’s men recorded a 16th successive league victory by brushing aside Tottenham 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, with a brace from Raheem Sterling as well as strikes from Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne securing a comprehensive win for the Citizens. And they backed that up with another victory in midweek as the North West outfit edged past Leicester City on penalties in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, thus setting up a last four tie with Championship outfit Bristol City following their famous win over Manchester United on Wednesday night.

Subsequently, there are many joyous City fans in the Tavern at the moment, although they are unlikely to be overly thrilled by a potentially unwelcome recent report from The Daily Express, which suggests that Paris Saint-Germain have upped the ante in pursuit of Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.

The 29-year-old’s future at the Emirates Stadium has been subject of speculation for a while now given that he has yet to agree an extension on his current contract with the Gunners, which is due to expire in the summer.

As such, there has been much interest in his services, with Guardiola’s City one side reportedly keeping tabs on his situation, yet recent reports suggest that French giants PSG have upped the ante by speaking with the player’s representatives in Paris last week, in a bid to thrash out a deal in the upcoming January transfer window.

This is unlikely to be well received by our resident City fans, but with Sanchez himself reportedly keen on a move to the Etihad Stadium, they remain well in the race for the Chile international.

Landlord’s verdict: Alexis Sanchez’s future at Arsenal has been dominating the news for a while now, with it almost inevitable that he’ll be leaving the Emirates Stadium in 2018.

No new deal has been agreed to leave Arsene Wenger’s side in something of a quandary, with selling the 29-year-old a likely option in the January window in a bid to at least get a transfer fee for the influential attacker.

Manchester City have seemingly headed the race for a while now, but some potentially unwelcome news has emerges as they reportedly face a battle from Paris Saint-Germain, who have reportedly held talks with the player’s representatives about a move to the French capital.

Thus, this could well prompt Pep Guardiola’s side into action once the window reopens on January 1.
