Tottenham reportedly facing disappointment in January quest to land highly-rated target

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Mauricio Pochettino to bring in a few players this month, however one player that doesn’t look likely to move to North London is Fulham ace Ryan Sessegnon.

According to the Telegraph, the Lilywhites are keen on a move for the English starlet, but Fulham vice-chairman Tony Khan has now revealed that he will be staying at Craven Cottage for the rest of the season at least. He has revealed that Sessegnon “will not be departing during this January transfer window”, amidst apparent interest from Spurs and Man Utd.

That will no doubt come as a blow for Tottenham, not least because of how well he has done this season. Despite being just 18-years-old, he’s already a regular at Fulham, providing a threatening and consistent option down the left-hand side. Able to play at both left-back and left-wing, his versatility has seen his influence increase significantly in the Championship.

Mauricio Pochettino has often shown a preference for young English talent, with the likes of Dele Alli and Eric Dier moving to North London in recent years. Sessegnon, it seems, was his ideal choice to join that list this month, but alas, a move is looking very unlikely indeed.

Still, there is hope for Tottenham. There is no suggestion that he will never leave Fulham, and so perhaps a deal in the summer is more likely.

Landlord’s Verdict

Ryan Sessegnon is perfect for Tottenham. They need more quality on the left-hand side, whilst Pochettino would no doubt be able to turn him into a top European star and help him reach his potential.

That being said, he’s clearly a player for the future, and so having to wait a few months shouldn’t trouble Spurs too much.

It’s time for Pochettino to have a re-think with regards to his January plans.
