Manchester United still remain favourites to sign Jack Rodwell despite recent interest from fierce rivals Manchester City. Chelsea are also long term admirers of the 19 year old but United are set to swoop in with a £15 million bid in the summer.
Sir Alex is said to be a long term admirer of the England under 21 international and sees him as one for the future. Michael Carrick has had another disappointing season in a United shirt and is set for a summer exit while Paul Scholes has maybe one more season in the red shirt.
Everton however may feel that £15 million is too low and will push in excess of £20 million should the Red Devils come knocking on the door next summer. David Moyes has seen plenty of high profile players leave over the years and will not go down without a fight. If made to sell, Moyes will demand all of the money be reinvested in the squad as Everton look to rebuild following another disappointing season in the Premier League.
Rodwell only signed a 5 year contract with the blues last summer but it is thought he would be interested in a move to United. Everton’s lack of progress over the last couple of seasons coupled with the departure of its top stars has prompted Rodwell to think about his future.
If Rodwell is interested in a move to Old Trafford at least he will be bright enough not to follow Wayne Rooney’s example by claiming “once a blue, always a blue” then asking to leave once United laid the bid on the table.
