The West Bromwich Albion fans in the Transfer Tavern are extremely worried about the future of Jonny Evans. With the club sitting second bottom of the Premier League and four points from safety, losing Jonny Evans this month would be disastrous for Alan Pardew’s team as they look to escape relegation.
Evans has been linked with a move to Arsenal or Manchester City. Both of the Premier League giants need a new centre half in January and are trying to poach the Northern Ireland international away from the Hawthorns as he continues to impress with solid and assured performances at the back.
West Brom could be defenceless against the former Manchester United man’s exit but Pardew will already need to be lining up a replacement should Evans depart. Joe Worrall of Nottingham Forest should be towards the top of his list.
While Worrall does not have any Premier League experience yet, it is only a matter of time before this solid defender is playing top flight football and he would immediately improve West Brom’s squad. The youngster has been a regular for Nottingham Forest and has impressed with his all round capabilities as a centre back.
The 20-year-old is a leader at the back and has shown maturity beyond his years in Forest’s defence. In the recent FA Cup game against Arsenal, he was shown a late red card but had Danny Welbeck shackled for most of the game and that fixture would be a big learning curve for the young talent.
The England under-21 international has captained his country at youth level and West Brom should swoop now before more Premier League clubs take an interest.
