Nottingham Forest would become play-off contenders with signing of Newcastle man

The Nottingham Forest supporters here in the Football Transfer Tavern were pretty disappointed with their team last season, as the Reds narrowly avoided dropping into League One on the final day of the 2016/17 campaign.

Although the Reds supporters spent more time drowning their sorrows than celebrating victory last season, they are at least optimistic that Mark Warburton can take them forward next time around.

If Forest are to challenge at the right end of the Championship next season then they must ensure that more players are signed in order to bolster the squad.

One area that the club should possibly look to strengthen during the summer is at central defence, with the Reds suffering injury problems during 2016/17 which hampered the chances of a regular back four.

One man who would jump at the chance to move to the City Ground is Newcastle United defender Grant Hanley who endured a frustrating season at St. James’ Park since arriving during last summer.

If the Reds are serious about making a challenge for the top six then Hanley is exactly the sort of player that the club must pursue in the coming months.

The ex-Blackburn defender has played just 10 times for the Magpies over the course of last season and for a player coming into his prime that simply isn’t enough time on the pitch.

Following Newcastle’s promotion to the Barclays Premier League it seems unlikely that Hanley will be offered more games for the club, especially considering he wasn’t fancied by boss Rafa Benitez in the league below and a move to Forest could suit all parties.

One Forest fan is enjoying one of the landlord’s famous bacon butties and he thinks that the powerful central defender is exactly the sort of player that the club should be targeting during the transfer window.

Nottingham Forest fans, would you welcome Grant Hanley to the club? Let us know in the comments below!!!
