The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to the London derby later today. The Blues are set to take on Tottenham at Stamford Bridge in a game that could be hugely important in the context of the season.
If Chelsea don’t win, a top-four finish may be impossible, but if they do secure the three points, things will quickly turn around for Antonio Conte.
It couldn’t get much bigger for the Blues, then, and so some big performances will be needed by some of the Chelsea players.
One player that, undoubtedly, will need to play the game of his life is Tiemoue Bakayoko. It’s been a very tough season for the Frenchman since moving from Monaco. His form has been incredibly inconsistent, and if that doesn’t start to improve, he could well be sold this summer.
Fortunately, this Sunday’s game provides him with the perfect platform to do just that, and it wouldn’t be the first time that he’s impressed against Tottenham. In the first fixture between the two this season, Bakayoko was drafted in for his full Chelsea debut – despite not being fully recovered from injury.
The Frenchman put in a masterful performance in a game that saw Chelsea come out as the winners, and he played a crucial part in grinding out that result.
If he can repeat that feat this weekend, Chelsea could well win the game again, and at that point, Bakayoko’s fortunes could very quickly turn around. If not, though, it could spell disaster for the young midfielder.
