The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern, for once, are looking forward to next season. The Hammers appointed Manuel Pellegrini as their new gaffer last week and the fans can’t wait to see a new look West Ham under the Chilean. Unfortunately for the Hammers, Pellegrini will have to make due with the club’s unpopular owners, David Sullivan, David God and Karen Brady.
The Chilean is unlikely to have a huge amount of funds to splash out on new players this summer. At the start of the 2017/18 season, the fans were looking forward to seeing Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez in claret and blue, and they’ll be hoping that a year later they can be excited to see some new Irons take to The London Stadium in a new era under Pellegrini.
Life at West Ham was difficult last season. The Hammers played out most of the season dangerously close to the relegation zone and only managed to ensure Premier League safety with two games remaining, despite sitting 17th throughout March and April. Whilst David Moyes did what he was brought in to do, Pellegrini is a different calibre of manager to the Scotsman, having won two League Cups and the Premier League in his three seasons at The Etihad.
