Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern almost choked on their pints this afternoon after they were made aware of a surprising transfer story that has been developing.
The Sun state that the Chinese Super League want to bring Wayne Rooney to the Far East to become the big name player, following a huge TV deal worth a staggering £830m.
Rooney currently has three-years remaining on his deal at Old Trafford but England’s record goalscorer has struggled for the Red Devils this season and his advisors are considering all options for his next move.
China is making serious attempts to raise the profile of their league and have attracted some big names in the process, including former Manchester City striker Robinho and former Everton star Tim Cahill, but Rooney would undoubtably be the household name in the league.
Now 30, Rooney is likely to leave United for one final swan song before hanging up his boots and a lucrative deal may appeal to him.
Our fans will be sad to see him go but believe they can recoup the £30m they paid for him a decade ago, whilst also accepting their captain is past his best.
Should United cash-in on Wayne Rooney? Where should he go to next? Let us know in the comments below!
