Offer reportedly rejected as Newcastle United now look to seal summer transfer deal

Newcastle fans here in the Tavern are delighted after picking up all three points against Southampton at the weekend, as the Magpies took a giant leap towards Premier League safety.

Rafa Benitez has been working tirelessly to put things right at St James’ Park after flirting with the possibility of relegation, and it looks as if the Spaniard’s efforts are beginning to pay off after securing a vital win in their relegation crunch match against the Saints at the weekend. Indeed, Kenedy bagged a brace in the crucial fixture that saw many of our local residents talk about the possibility of a permanent deal in the summer. But, it appears that the club may encounter some difficulties in making this a reality, as according to reports in the Evening Standard, Chelsea rejected Newcastle’s request to include an option to buy clause for the 22-year-old as part of the loan negotiations.

Newcastle United want to sign Kenedy from Chelsea on a permanent basis in the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian has impressed since joining the club on loan for the rest of the season in the January transfer window, and has already managed to start more Premier League games for Benitez’s side (six) than in the previous two-and-a-half years he has been at Chelsea (five).

However, Chelsea rejected Newcastle’s request to include an option to buy Kenedy as part of the loan negotiations, which means there still could be a future for the player at Stamford Bridge. Although, the Magpies are hoping to hold more talks with Chelsea over a transfer, something that could depend on the Blues’ managerial situation with Antonio Conte’s future remaining uncertain in the English capital.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Chelsea’s decision to reject the option to buy clause is bad news for Newcastle fans, as the Blues could be looking to bring him back to Stamford Bridge as a key member of their future. Although, many of our local northerners remain upbeat about the situation, as Newcastle hope to hold more talks over a transfer with the Brazilian’s parent club.
