Newcastle United supporters are somewhat disappointed and downbeat in the Transfer Tavern today after seeing their side produce a limp performance in a 1-0 defeat to Burnley on Monday night, in turn suffering their fourth Premier League loss of the campaign.
Rafa Benitez’s men went into their clash with the Clarets off the back of beating Crystal Palace 1-0 last weekend, and knew that victory in Lancashire would have propelled them above Liverpool and into sixth place in the table. However, they didn’t really threaten to take all three points and eventually came away with nothing as a Jeff Hendrick strike 16 minutes from time was enough to seal the win for Sean Dyche’s side, whose fourth victory of the season moved them up to seventh place in the table, whereas the Magpies remain ninth.
Thus, several of our resident Newcastle fans were drowning their sorrows last night after their team’s lacklustre performance, but attentions will soon be turning to their next Premier League encounter on Saturday which sees Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth visit St James’ Park.
However, many Magpies supporters have taken to Twitter in the aftermath of Monday’s game to express their views on proceedings, and one man in particular is being destroyed for his efforts at Turf Moor, namely midfielder Mo Diame.
The former Hull City and West Ham man came into the starting eleven at the expense of Isaac Hayden but did little to warrant selection, and the latter then came on with seven minutes to go and arguably showed more in that short cameo than Diame did in the preceding 83 minutes.
And many Newcastle fans took to social media to hammer the midfielder for his exploits on Monday night…
Rafa will know what are deficiencies are up front but, Diame? Poor man’s Sissoko #nufc

Worst performance in a while from a player in Black&White. How Diame gets on that pitch baffles me. Starting line up questionable #nufc

How Diame stayed on longer than Perez is beyond me. Offered absolutely nothing apart from a headache tonight. #NUFC
