AC Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United are said to be gauging a bid for German wonderkid Leon Goretzka. The 17-year-old, who has been dubbed the next Michael Ballack, is expected to become subject of a bidding war between the European giants.
Goretzka, who currently plays for Bundesliga 2 side Bochum, is thought to command a transfer fee of anything upwards of £1m.
Should the youngster live up to anywhere near his potential he could turn out to be a steal for United, Milan or Madrid, should they manage to capture the German at a bargain basement price.
United in particular have started to build towards the next generation, with the addition of Nick Powell, David De Gea and Danny Welbeck to the first team setup over the past couple of seasons. The prospect of seeing Powell and Goretzka play together at the heart of the United midfield is certainly a tantalising one.
But Milan and Real Madrid are also potent temptations for the 17-year-old, with the opportunity to link up with Mesut Ozil at the Bernabeu one of the main attractions that might ultimately lead to Goretzka opting for a move to Spain.
However such a young player may be reluctant to make a move away from his homeland particularly when teams such as Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund will expose Goretzka to the Champions League football and winning mentality that is on offer at United, Milan or Madrid.
Of course the difference between signing Goretzka now rather than in three to four years time is not only a question of price, but a question on whether United, Madrid or Milan want to sign a world class prospect or a world class player.
