Football France are running with the tale that Didier Drogba’s spiritual home, Olympique Marseille are keen on Benoit Assou Ekotto.
Benoit is a player that whilst he is Harry Redknapp’s first pick at left back, has Tottenham fans divided. Some believe him to be a quality asset, others see him a disaster waiting to happen.
The player also courted a smattering of controversy with comments he made in a full and frank interview a while back where he referred to playing at Tottenham as merely a job and like most jobs in life you go where the money is.
Again, this bugged some Spurs fans who want to hear that all their players are committed to ‘the cause’, whilst others admired his honesty – seeing him as a refreshing change from these guys who kiss the badge one week and put in transfer request the next. At least he’s honest.
Marseille’s Taye Taiwo is set to leave them so they will undoubtedly be shopping for a replacement, so this perhaps be one of the first indicators as to whether Harry Redknapp’s squad will remain in tact once this season closes.
A value on Benoit? He will be ‘un-competitively priced- by Levy that much we know, so I would expect offers in excess of €15M to be placed before the threat of a move could be taken seriously.
