The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to see a few young players progress into the Chelsea first team next season…
After all, the Blues academy is one of the most successful in Europe, with a host of the players within the system simply bound for glory.
One such player is Lewis Baker. Currently on loan with Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands, Baker has gone under-the-radar somewhat since he moved to mainland Europe, and it is tough to understand why.
The English midfielder is one of the best players in the Eredivisie, and that should stand him in good stead ahead of a return to the Premier League. The likelihood of him making it at Chelsea remains low, but it would appear as though the player himself is still hopeful.
In an interview with Joe Tweeds for Chelsea fan site WeAintGotNoHistory, Lewis Baker has recently discussed the dream that he has of playing for Chelsea.
As per WeAintGotNoHistory: “He [Baker] told me how “[he has] been at Chelsea since he was nine years old” and his dream is to play for the club”.
He also discussed the lengths that he would go to to get game time, with Baker stating that he: “would play left-back for Chelsea, if Conte asked him”.
The entire article is an insightful read, but the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are particularly impressed with how much Baker seems to really want to play for Chelsea. Considering that he is a natural central midfielder, the fact that he would play a left-back for Chelsea is rather telling – with the self-confessed Chelsea fan just wanting to play for the club that he grew up at.
Baker has made 22 appearances for Vitesse this season, scoring 9 goals.
