‘One down’, ‘Great news’ – Tottenham fans on Twitter react as summer building kicks off

The Spurs fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news that their young full-back Kyle Walker-Peters has signed a contract extension with the club, keeping him there until 2021. The 21-year-old academy graduate has made nine appearances for the Lilywhites this season, scoring his first Tottenham goal in the club’s 6-1 win over Rochdale in an FA Cup 5th-round replay.

Kyle-Walker Peters has been touted as the club’s long-term replacement for Kyle Walker, who departed the club last summer for a fee in the region of £50 million for Manchester City. The Tottenham man had spent ten years in North London before moving to The Etihad in the pursuit of trophies, which he’s already had success with having won both the League Cup and the Premier League in his debut season in Manchester.

Mauricio Pochettino’s first choice full-backs this season have been Ben Davies on the left and Serge Aurier on the right and whilst Walker-Peters is capable of playing on either side of the club’s defence, he’s found himself third choice on both flanks. As well as Aurier and Davies, the club has Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier who have been deployed a lot in domestic cup competitions and rotationally in the Premier League, leading to limited opportunities for the young Walker-Peters.
