It’s been a decent season for Tottenham, with most of Mauricio Pochettino’s objectives secured. He still hasn’t bagged that elusive trophy, but with a top-four finish and most of his players still improving, the Argentine is clearly still having a positive impact in North London.
However, one player that has struggled somewhat this season is Hugo Lloris.
The Frenchman has remained a constant in the team this season, but there is no doubting that he has had one of his worst seasons since moving to Spurs. Though famed for his consistency and quality between the sticks, he’s fallen off in that regard this season quite considerably. Granted, you can point towards a few changes in the Spurs defence as one reason, but Lloris must take some of the blame.
Significantly, he’s made a total of 5 errors that have led to Premier League goals this season, and that’s a huge problem for the Lilywhites. When you consider that last season he made just two, his problems become abundantly clear. Indeed, the errors picked up this season account for 1/3 of the total that he has made since moving to Tottenham.
That being said, he has still shown glimpses of quality, and so it’s also clear that he hasn’t lost it yet. However, he’ll need to put in a good display for Spurs next season in order to reinstate his glowing reputation.
If not, especially given that he is 31-years-old, Tottenham genuinely may – and probably should – look to move him on and replace him with someone better.
