One of the world’s greatest ever footballers would play for Arsenal

wengerWe overheard an interesting conversation at the smoking area here at the Transfer Tavern earlier today, with legendary Brazilian footballer Pele declaring he would play for Arsenal in the modern era.

The multiple-time World Cup winner scored over 1000 league goals during his career and is often picked as the greatest footballer of all time in the debates we hear by the pool tables – despite the fact that only the old man in the corner had ever seen him play.

Nevertheless, Pele himself has opened up a whole new debate with his latest comments after he told The Telegraph that if he was a modern day football in England he would play for Arsenal.

“Today Barcelona. They are the same style as Santos and Brazil of my day. Almost the same style. Arsenal is a good team to play with. I would play for Arsenal if I had a chance.”

There’s a few folk here that believe that, despite his age, Pele would still be a good fit for an Arsenal side who don’t have the best options up-top.

With Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud both scoring twice so far this season, but missing a hatful of chances, Pele would be a welcome addition in North London.

Arsenal fans, would the Gunners have a European Cup had Pele played for you in the past? Let us know below!
