The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been wondering what might have been as they’ve watched Danish midfielder, Christia Eriksen, score a superb goal for his country in the World Cup against Australia. Liverpool almost signed the Dane from Ajax before he eventually left the Netherlands for Spurs for a fee of around £11 million in 2013.
Eriksen is special isn’t he. Remember when Liverpool were linked to him every window for about 5 years before he joined Spurs. One that got away! Player.

Whilst Eriksen didn’t find his way to Anfield, the club opted against signing him and instead ended up signing the little Brazilian maestro, Philippe Coutinho. Today, Coutinho has moved on to Barcelona whilst Eriksen has continued to light up the Premier League in Lilywhite for Tottenham, recently scoring an incredible 14 goals and setting up a further 13 for teammates.
The Liverpool fans wouldn’t have had any qualms about missing out on Eriksen had they not recently sold Coutinho to Barcelona back in January. However, the fact that they are now left without Coutinho they have been looking back and questioning why the club didn’t stretch their financial muscle and bring in the Danish playmaker, who is proving to be a bargain for the Lilywhites as he continues to light up the Premier League for Spurs.
You can read our resident Reds’ verdict on Eriksen here:
If the Spuds were to get rid of anyone this summer I’d hope it would be him. Kane rarely plays as well without Eriksen in the team

There were a few during that time including Willian, Alli, Sigurdsson and Salah (before Chelsea) all strongly linked, thankfully we seem to have turned that around.

We were always fond of letting players go away weren’t we.
Ali, Mata, Willian to name a few

we @lfc would have well sold him on by now to 1 of the Spanish clubs

Brendan Rodgers should've signed him

As you can see, there’s a fair amount of bitterness among the fans as they’re gutted to have missed out on the Spurs star.
