There are a few disappointed looks among Manchester United supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern after last night’s Champions League action.
Despite a screamer from unlikely goal-scorer Patrice Evra, reigning European champions Bayern Munich proved too good for David Moyes’ side over the two legs.
The defeat spelled the end of his Champions League dream and possibly the last time the Red Devils will feature in the elite European competition for at least a few seasons.
talkSPORT have claims that have raised eyebrows in the tavern as they suggest Moyes is considering a move for Fiorentina midfielder Borja Valero in the summer transfer window.
Valero, a ball-playing midfielder, is a familiar name to us here in the tavern after his time spent at Premier League rivals West Bromwich Albion between 2008 and 2011.
He wasn’t exactly a success at The Hawthorns but he has re-established his reputation after leaving and his recent displays in Serie A have reportedly brought him to the attention of Moyes as he seeks a top passer.
While United’s major summer target is Bayern Munich midfield man Toni Kroos, Moyes is lining up alternatives in case the transfer fails to materialise and Valero is one on his list.
The 29-year-old one-time Spain international has impressed United scouts with his dominating performances and that could see him leaving the Viola in the summer.
Are these the kinds of transfer targets that Manchester United fans will have to grow accustomed to this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
