Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited to see who the club will bring to St James Park this summer and our punters are hopeful of securing European football next season.
The Magpies finished in tenth last season, an extremely respectable finish given the lack of resources available to Rafael Benitez. The Spaniard looks set to stay as Newcastle manager, and our regulars reckon they could challenge for Europe with a few keys signings. Owner Mike Ashley needs to back Benitez in the market if they are to be successful next year.
According to reports in the Daily Mirror, Everton are set to offload 12 players this summer following the arrival of Marco Silva with Morgan Schneiderlin set to leave the club. Newcastle should capitalise and bring the Frenchman to St. James Park. He would be the perfect partner in midfield for Jonjo Shelvey.
Valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, the 28-year-old arrived from Manchester United in January 2017 for a fee of £20m. He made a promising start to life on Merseyside and was expected to be a key player for the Blues. However, he has failed to impress this season, fans have been less than impressed with his lacklustre attitude.
His form improved towards the end of the season and Schneiderlin still has a lot to offer at the highest level. A tenacious ball winning midfielder, he would allow Shelvey to flourish ahead of him. The ex-Southampton man has plenty of Premier League experience and could prove to be a massive success on Tyneside.
