Such is the extent of the talent residing within Marco Silva's squad, Everton supporters had plenty to analyse during the international break, including the performances of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Richarlison's brilliance has rather glossed over a notable problem for Silva: his distinct lack of clinical firepower at centre-forward.

For all of Everton's plaudits this season there is no doubt that they are a major injury to the Brazilian boy wonder away from losing their razor sharpness in attack.

Cenk Tosun has struggled to live up to the expectation which surrounded his January arrival, and Calvert-Lewin is lacking the experience from which to form concrete judgements regarding the scope of his potential.

The 21-year-old attacker has predominantly been limited to cameo appearances so far this season under Silva, but he has boosted his chances of breaking into the starting eleven on international duty.

It's been a familiar story for Calvert-Lewin on the bench of England's U21 side, but he managed to score two goals from the fifty-five minutes of football he was afforded by Aidy Boothroyd in two substitute appearances.

Both goals arrived during England's 5-1 demolition of Denmark on Tuesday evening, scoring first from a Reiss Nelson cross and then from the penalty spot with a conviction which hints he is full of confidence right now.

While Calvert-Lewin may not be a pivotal component of the Everton squad just yet, there is no doubt that he will grow in stature as the season unfolds.

As Silva has alluded to, the Sheffield United academy graduate is capable of playing both through the middle and on the left-side as an inside-forward, and his versatility will lend the Portuguese manager opportunities to tinker with his starting line-up.

Calvert-Lewin may not be setting the world alight like plenty of his fellow England U21 teammates, but his goal scoring exploits on international duty suggest that he has the killer instinct to make his mark on Merseyside this season.
