Leicester City fans in the Transfer Tavern can’t stop smiling with the club on the verge of securing their third summer transfer deal.
The Foxes’ summer recruitment drive is in full flow as Claude Puel looks to challenge for a European place next season. The 54-year-old lured Porto right-back, Ricardo Pereira, to the King Power Stadium in a £18m deal and also completed a cut-price transfer for ex-Manchester United defender – Jonny Evans. Now, Leicester have captured the excellent James Maddison, a real coup at the King Power.
Maddison has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in England following a sensational season with the Canaries. He became a target for many Premier League clubs including Liverpool and Everton. Leicester, however, have beaten Southampton in the race for his signature.
Valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, the 21-year-old could prove to be their best signing for years. He netted 14 goals in the Championship last season, including long-range wonder goals as well as spectacular free-kicks. He also notched eight assists.
Puel would be wise to make Maddison the central hub of his Leicester side. He is an excellent dribbler, only Riyad Mahrez completed more dribbles in the Leicester squad (WhoScored), but it’s his eye for a pass that separates him from the rest. Capable of unlocking a defence, his arrival will be brilliant for Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho. Remarkably, Maddison created 120 chances for his team-mates last season, a mouth-watering prospect for the Foxes.
If he can continue his form in the Premier League, don’t be surprised to see Maddison lining up for England. Indeed, he’s their best signing since N’Golo Kante, if he can find his form quickly.
