Opinion: Levy could finally bring the Premier League to Spurs with move for Allan

Tottenham enjoyed what was undeniably their best performance of the season over the weekend, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men putting on a clinic against Everton to win the game 6-2.

Everyone impressed on the day, and though Tottenham had been going somewhat under the radar this season, often overshadowed by the likes of Liverpool and Man City, the game proved that the Lilywhites are very much on the level of their Premier League rivals.

However, they’ve got a bit of catching up to do in the league, and so if Pochettino wants to win the title, he’ll have to enjoy a very good second-half of the season. That would be a far more realistic prospect if Daniel Levy afforded him one or two signings, and one area that does lack depth is the midfield.

The likes of Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele have lacked fitness this term, leaving the club short as a result, and so a new midfielder could have a transformative effect on Spurs.

One man that could be perfect is Napoli ace Allan, who is rated at £45 million by Transfer Markt.

Allan is a combative central midfielder with bags of energy and quality. He tends to sit quite deep, effectively as a number 4 or a number 6, and he looks to make an impact from there; rather than moving the ball forward like many of Tottenham’s current players.

He’s got a fantastic range of passing, meaning that he’s able to pick up the ball and move it forward, which helps Napoli tick, and he would have a similar impact for Spurs. He’s very much suited to Pochettino’s style, with quick passing and movement all core fundamentals within his game.

The Brazilian is not the sort of player that will drive forward with the ball and make a break into the penalty area. Indeed, he’s far more comfortable sticking to what he knows. But in that position, he’d really offer Spurs an extra layer of quality in the heart of their midfield.
