The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned about their side’s goalkeeping situation. They’re yet to replace Loris Karius or Simon Mignolet, and neither player has done anything to indicate that they’re good enough to be Jurgen Klopp’s first choice next season.
Unfortunately, though, according to the Mirror, that’s a problem that, at the moment, is looking almost unsolvable. Many of their apparent shortlisted targets – like Jan Oblak and Alisson – are likely to be unavailable, and that obviously leaves the club in a bit of a difficult position.
The Reds, then, will be forced to go down a bit of an unknown path to try and solve the issue. Fortunately, they could find the perfect solution over in France – as our landlord thinks that Toulouse goalkeeper Alban Lafont would be a brilliant choice.
Lafont is a regular for his current team, having made 38 appearances last season. He forced himself into the first team on a weekly basis last year, and he featured in every single league game last term for the first time in his career.
A brilliant shotstopper, Lafont is a bit of a jack of all trades between the sticks. Strong in the air, agile and quick, he’s as solid as they come. He’s also comfortable with the ball at his feet, which is important for a team like Liverpool.
At just 19-years-old, he’s a player that is only going to get better, and the fact that he’s already playing so regularly is huge. Liverpool are in a position, of course, where they would like proven quality. Lafont, as of the moment, doesn’t quite have that over a number of years – but he’s genuinely looking like he has the potential of one of Europe’s best.
