Everton returned to winning ways on Boxing Day in emphatic style with a 5-1 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.

Marco Silva's reign at Goodison Park has started in promising fashion for the Portuguese manager. A summer spending spree arrived in tandem with the new boss and it was a handful of the new arrivals who made all the difference against the Clarets.

Four of Everton's five goals arrived from players who arrived in the summer, with Yerry Mina and Richarlison bagging a goal apiece to supplement Lucas Digne's exquisite brace.

Various pieces of the jigsaw are beginning to slot neatly into place, but that has not prevented the club from considering making further signings in January.

Indeed, according to a recent report from the Daily Mail, Everton are set to go head-to-head with PSG for the signature of Watford's Abdoulaye Doucoure.

That Silva is eyeing up another reunion with one of Watford's key players is absolutely no surprise, but with French giants PSG lurking he will undoubtedly struggle in his pursuit.

The lure of the French capital will resonate with Doucoure for more reasons than one, but with Richarlison and Andre Gomes at Goodison Park there is reason to suggest he could be persuaded to make the move to Merseyside.

Firstly, as a former Watford player, Richarlison can offer Doucoure an insight into life at Everton and endorse the positive atmosphere which has helped to inspire a series of positive results this season, while the opportunity to once again link up with the Brazilian boy wonder is certainly an appealing one for the Frenchman to mull over.

But Richarlison is not the only man who could make a telling difference as Doucoure weighs up his options, as Andre Gomes' decision to join Everton in the summer provides a telling indicator into the direction in which the club are heading.

That Gomes opted to leave a club of Barcelona's stature for Everton proves that the club are aiming to progress and challenge the status quo in the Premier League, and his performances since arriving hint that he is more than capable of playing Champions League football.

If Everton are able to turn Gomes' deal into a permanent one then Doucoure might just be convinced that now is the right time to join Silva's revolution, so it will be interesting to see if the Portugal international puts pen to paper on a permanent deal in January.

With players of Gomes' and Richarlison's calibre spearheading a new era at Everton there is plenty of reason for Doucoure to snub the advances of PSG in favour of a reunion with Silva.
