When Newcastle United signed Salomon Rondon last summer, it came across as an underwhelming acquisition to some supporters.

The 29-year-old arrived at St. James' Park on loan from West Brom with Mike Ashley, unsurprisingly, unwilling to fork out on a permanent deal.

That, on top of a lack of goals, made fans' disappointment towards the signing of Rondon during the earlier part of the campaign understandable.

However, since then, the Venezuela international has gone on to find the back of the net in some big games including in his side's 2-1 win over Premier League champions Manchester City at the end of January.

Ultimately, with Rondon now scoring more frequently, he is starting to look like a very clever capture, especially when considering the fact that there was no transfer fee involved.

It is not just goals, though, that are making the West Brom loanee a good bit of business done by Rafael Benitez.

Rondon's all-round centre-forward play, at times, has been borderline elite. With his back towards goal, he shields the ball extremely well, while in the air he is so dominant.

On his day, Rondon is practically a complete No.9. It may have taken some time, but the wait has truly been worth it for Benitez and co.
