Liverpool have picked up where they left off this season, with Jurgen Klopp’s men maintaining a 100% record in the English top flight thus far. They’re undoubtedly a team in with a chance of snatching the Premier League title from Pep Guardiola’s Man City over the next year, though it’s obviously not going to be easy.
A key reason why the Reds have been able to up their game so significantly so far comes down to the signings that they’ve made. Alisson was a shrewd acquisition, whilst Naby Keita is also making a significant impact in the middle of the park.
However, one player that is yet to get his chance is Brazilian ace Fabinho. Klopp appears to be slowing embedding him into the squad – but could it finally be time to unleash him?
Well, with a tough game against Brighton on the horizon, it could make perfect sense.
Fabinho is exactly the sort of player that Liverpool were crying out for last season. Despite the quality in the team, they lacked a defensive force that was able to break up play and move it forward, and Fabinho offers that in droves. Strong in the tackle, quick on the ball and with a tendency to move play onwards quickly, he’ll help to be the glue that holds the Liverpool midfield together.
He’s yet to make a start in the Premier League, but that was expected. Klopp also gave Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a few weeks last season before giving him a starting berth, and that meant that he could make an immediate impact when he did play. Having watched from the outside over the last few weeks, following a productive pre-season, Fabinho will be more than ready to do what he does best.
Beyond all of that, there is no denying that Brighton are a good team. They beat Man Utd last weekend, after all, and that’s no easy feat. They’ve got great defensive organisation, and they’re potent going forward, in particular. As a result, perhaps the defensive contribution that Fabinho offers could be needed, and that could help prevent any unwanted upsets at Anfield.
