Harry Kane has been Tottenham Hotspur's talisman for a number of years and his meteoric rise has naturally attracted attention from Europe's most prestigious clubs.

Mauricio Pochettino deserves huge credit for providing Kane with the platform from which to realise his enormous potential. Transforming Kane from something of an unknown entity into a World Cup golden boot winner represents one of his greatest achievements in management, but that journey is not without its permutations.

Naturally, Kane will feel a natural allegiance towards the club who paved his journey to the top, but there is only so long he can resist interest from afar before he is forced to seriously consider his future.

The narrative surrounding Kane's future largely focuses on Tottenham's failure to claim any silverware in recent years but, regardless of whether the club win an trophies in the coming seasons, he will undoubtedly be tempted by the prospect of joining Barcelona.

A move to Barcelona is one of the most, if not the most desirable in world football, and that's a prospect which Kane could be presented with in the not too distant future, according to a report from Daily Star.

The report claims that Barcelona are intrigued by Richarlison's development at Everton this season, particularly now Luis Suarez is edging towards his 32nd birthday, but Kane remains their No.1. transfer target.

Suarez's return of ten goals and four assists from 14 La Liga appearances this season proves that he is far from finished at the top level, but Barcelona will want a contingency plan in place to ensure of a seamless transition into the post-Suarez era, and that could leave Kane vulnerable to the charm of a career-defining move to Catalonia.

Tottenham, of course, need to be wary of the threat from rival clubs. In the modern era it is uncommon for players to see out the entirety of their careers at the same club, and opportunities as enticing as leading Barcelona's forward line seldom come around more than once.

If Pochettino can convince Kane to remain in north London with the lure of Barcelona playing on the striker's mind it will be one of his greatest achievements in management to date.

Daniel Levy will be in a fantastic position to command a world-record fee for Kane in the event that Barcelona's interest translates into a formal offer, but that will offer little comfort to those supporters who would struggle to fathom a bright future without their universally adored attacker.
