The less said about Tottenham's summer transfer window the better, at least from the perspective of most Tottenham fans. The Lilywhites failed to sign a single player during the summer, which when you consider the fact that so many of their rivals invested big money, leaves Mauricio Pochettino's men in a bad spot.

Now, they're going to have to wait until January in order to improve the squad, and it'll be important for the club to identify any potential targets as early as possible.

One player that could be available is Ruben Loftus-Cheek. According to the Bleacher Report, the Englishman could look to leave Chelsea if he doesn't receive sufficient game time, and though a move back to Crystal Palace is apparently a possibility, a move to Tottenham could make a lot of sense.

After all, Loftus-Cheek - who is rated at £16.2 million by Transfer Markt - is exactly the sort of player that thrives under Mauricio Pochettino. Young, technically-gifted and agile, the Englishman shares a number of characteristics with someone like Dele Alli, and his success story has arguably been Pochettinos' best.

At just 22-years-old, Loftus-Cheek does need to be playing regularly, but he's still young enough to continue to develop. The physical side of his game is near-perfect, but that extra tactical edge is needed, and Pochettino would be the perfect person to provide it.

There's also a gap in Tottenham's squad for a player of that quality. There is a lack of depth in attacking midfield at present, especially beyond Dele Alli through the middle, whilst there is also scope for him to play deeper in place of someone like Mousa Dembele.

A move for Loftus-Cheek wouldn't be an easy one, but in terms of the perfect home for the player and the club, Tottenham would pose an interesting proposition. There's arguably no better place for him based on Pochettino's recent approach to youth.
